I will be researching the thriller genre. (Above are some pictures of some thriller films)

 Common camera angles, movement, shots

  • High Angle Shots
  • Low Angle Shots
  • Dutch Angle
  • Over The Shoulder Shots
  • Bird's Eye View
  • Tracking Shots

Common Mis-En-Scene

  • Harsh lighting
  • Dark and ominous isolated areas
  • Symbolic clothing
  • Distressed clothing
  • Objects with symbolic meaning
  • Characters move slowly

Common Editing

  • Jump cuts
  • Split Screen
  • Eyeline match
  • Dissolve
  • Fade

Common Sound

  • Eerie music
  • Ambient noise
  • Diegetic/Nondiegetic sound

Example Films

  • The Jester (2023)
  • Nowhere (2023)
  • Zodiac (2007)

What elements of the genre that you like and would use if this was your genre?

I like the mis-en-scene elements and also the sound. I would definitely use eerie music or ambient noise if this was my genre.

What elements of the genre do not appeal to you, and you would not use if this was your genre.

I don't like dark lightning as it would be hard to replicate with a phone camera while still being able to see what is going on in the film.
