Production Blog: Time to Start Editing!

Image
Hey bloggers! It's about time I update you all on the progress of my music video! As you all know, I finished filming my music video last blog, which was posted a while ago. I have made a lot of editing progress so far! I am glad that I can say that I am about fifty percent done with editing. I don't want to go into all the details of everything that I added during editing. However, I will go over a few things. For example, I added things like thinking bubbles. I used CapCut as my editing software. For the chat bubbles, it was as easy as downloading a picture of a chat bubble and inserting it into Capcut. I like to use CapCut when editing since I know how to work the majority of the app. This is because I have already used the app in the past for many different types of things such as YouTube videos and social media posts. I also added transitions in my music video to make the cuts to the next scene less violent. Without the transitions, it was almost like I was just throwing

Production Blog: Last day of Filming!

Image
We (all the cast members) decided that it was going to be better to film during the week. We all choose a day that fit us best. We decided it was best to film on Wednesday. This is because no one had anything major going on that prohibited them from making it to the filming session. On Wednesday, I finished the second half of my music video. As predicted in my most recent blog, things went much smoother this time around. We ran into little to no problems during filming. This last part of filming was not only crucial to finish the filming of the music video, but also make any necessary changes and fixes. There is a lot of little things that I didn't think about when I filmed on Sunday, that I was able to go back and change today. For example, the lack of camera angles. On some scenes it was crucial to implement a low angle camera view. Camera views are crucial to a production. They determine the effect of what is being shown to the viewer. Also, I re-filmed a whole scene. I did this

Production Blog: Finally Got the Chance to Film!!!

Image
Good day bloggers! You won't believe what I finally got to do! Film!!!! And boy was it some hard work. It takes a lot of patience to film. Not only patience with the actors but also patience with the device you are filming on. I ran into a couple minor problems while filming. One of the main ones was that my phone that I was filming on was running out of space. This meant that I would have to delete old pictures and photos in order to record. While this may seem like a small problem, it took up a lot of the time in the time window that we had to film on Sunday. However, once everyone got on board, this whole process went silky smooth. We had to do some retakes of certain shots here and there, but in the end, almost everything went how I would've wanted it to go. We got to film the first half of the music video this Sunday, and we plan to film the second half next Sunday. Now that we know what to expect, this next production should run even smoother than this one. We won't r

Production Blog: Gathering All the Props

Image
Hello Bloggers! It's a great day as I am gathering all the props for the Sunday film session! I am so excited. It's great to see a vision that was in my mind finally start to come together. Unfortunately, we cannot film during the weekends though. However, that is okay. We have everything planned out to perfection! As you all already know, we have a three-day schedule, and I am confident that everything will work out just fine. Now, back to the props. I ordered only just one thing from Amazon. It was the fake badge and handcuffs for the cop role that I will be playing in the music video. All of the other things we didn't have to buy. The members of the music video production and I already have access to some other props we need like the toy gun and the prop cash. This was great since I didn't have to wait to film because of the shipping of needed props. I put all the props all in a bin so that they aren't lost on the day I will be filming. I also called the group

Production Blog: Couldn't Film Yet

Image
Hey Bloggers! Today marks the start of my production blogs! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to film yet. This is because of me being busy this past weekend. I also still needed to get the props ready for the music video recording. However, I did have some positives of not being able to film yet. I made a group call with everyone that is going to be in the music video. We went over a schedule that consists of 3 consecutive Sundays. We chose Sunday to film since that is the only time we see each other because of church. I will only be covering the first Sunday (next Sunday) in this blog. The first Sunday will be strictly dedicated to filming the first 30 seconds of the music video. We went over all the props needed to complete this music video. This is the list we came up with: prop money, black clothing and shoes, a prop cop badge and handcuffs, a Nerf gun, shades, and a fake mustache. These are all the necessary props needed to make this music video the best it can be. Of course, ove

My Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
Hey bloggers! I have finally completed my storyboard for the music video! It was fun drawing and really planning out each and every scene. Each box is a six-second frame that will be in my music video.  Slide 1: two children will be seen tucked into a bed near a nightstand Slide 2: an older character sits down in a chair near the bed with the children in it to tell them a bedtime story Slide 3: the older character asks if the children are ready to hear the story Slide 4: transition to two characters sitting on a couch eating popcorn Slide 5: two little boys talking to each other, looking mischievous Slide 6: one of the little boys suggests robbing older people Slide 7: scene showing the little boys robbing an elderly man with a crane Slide 8: one of the boys tries to rob an undercover cop and gets caught Slide 9: the cop grabs the boy's hand, ready to arrest him Slide 10: the little boy punches the cop in his stomach, and as a result, the cop hits the kid Slide 11: the little boy

Planning for my Music Video

Image
Hello again bloggers! As you can tell by the title, I will now start planning for my music video. I am very excited. I can’t wait to put my ideas into play. As you all know by now, I will be using the song, “Children’s Story” by Slick Rick.  I will use a number of props .  These include but are not limited to water guns, prop money, and handcuffs.  I will also order costumes via Amazon.  I will need a cop outfit, as I will have to play a cop in my music video.  I will also need to get a fake mustache, along with a couple other items and accessories.  Now the schedule . The schedule I have in mind is over a two-week span.  This will consist of both filming and editing.  This first week will be spent strictly filming.  The other week will be spent editing and returning to fix any errors made during filming. It is a very rigorous schedule I must say, as there is a lot to do in little time.  However, those I am working with will be able to handle it.  And just like that, I almost forgot to

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
Hello Bloggers! In this blog, I will be looking at the convention found in professional music videos. You may be asking, "What is a convention?", a convention is a commonality. To find "conventions", I needed to find a couple examples of music videos. I came up with three music videos: Children's Story by Slick Rick, Mr. Telephone Man by New Edition, and Cool It Now which is also by New Edition. I chose these three songs to look at, as all three of these are 1990s hip-hop and R&B. I also chose the music video on the song I will be doing the music video on.  Here are some elements I took note of in every music video. Children's Story Camera Angles, Movements, and Shots Eye Level shot Low angle Two Shot Three Shot Sound and Editing Jump Cuts Nondiegetic Sound Dialogue Vintage Video effects (Black and White Screen) Mis-En-Scene 1990s apparel (baggy clothes) Use of props such as a baton Mr. Telephone Man Camera Angles, Movements, and Shots Eye Level shot Med

Going Solo!

Image
What's up, bloggers! I am back once again. This blog is mainly about the music video I will be making! I chose to go solo on this one. I almost got peer-pressured into joining a group. However, I stood my ground. I already have a great idea in my mind. That is mainly why I chose to work alone. I feel like I can execute everything down to perfection, as long as I have control over the schedule of filming, editing, production, and more. Now let's get to the most important part of a music video. THE MUSIC! The song in a music video determines what is being displayed in a music video. The song I chose is "Children's Story" by Slick Rick. Slick Rick is a 90s HipHop artist. I chose him as an artist because most of his songs tell a story. I mean the song I chose literally has "story" in the title. This allows me to paint a picture to the listeners. This is the whole point of a music video. I won't say too much more about my music video, since I want to sa

Introduction to The Music Video

Image
Hello again bloggers! As you know by now, my name is Marvin Nixon. I am new to blogging. This is because I only started a month ago. The journey has been great so far. I am learning so much and I am learning how to connect with people through social media. I just recently finished my project. It was a commercial about me. Although it was time-consuming, I still loved the final product. I am now moving to my next project. This one is a little tougher. Guess what it is! A music video! I look forward to the challenge this new project will bring. I will go a little more into the project and what it really is in my next blog. As I bring this blog to a close, it has been such an adventure so far. The thing is, I have only just started and I am already having so much fun. I can't wait to see what the future will bring. I know that by the end of this new project, I will feel accomplished and I will feel like I conquered a beast. Thank you all for tuning in. Until next time... Out.
